“The public is beginning to agree that beer is just as interesting [as wine], but it doesn’t have a level of pretension around it,” Tse said. “People can feel intimated by wine and whether their bosses or someone else might judge them about their lack of knowledge of the formalities of tasting wine. But people aren’t as afraid of beer.”
I do love that beer has grown so much in popularity. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good glass of wine, too. But I think that the statement above has a lot of truth to it, and I encourage you to leverage that by providing a fun beer component to your event.
Before I go into some ways to incorporate beer into an event, I want to give a shout out to Red Bus Brewing Company in Folsom. They are very family-friendly and I love the quote on their wall that embraces the spirit of friendship and having a tribe: “If we spend the vast majority of time with people we love and respect- people we really enjoy being on the bus with- and who will never disappoint us- then we will almost certainly have a good life, no matter where the bus takes us.” Jim Collins
Ok, back to events. There are a variety of simple ways to incorporate beer into your event. Here are a few:
One way to provide an experience to your attendees is to serve the local food and drink when planning an event. Check out this fun way to showcase local beers at your
event: https://taptrucksd.com
Tap truck or not, DO make sure to offer attendees local beers and perhaps even call out some information about them so that people can get to know the brews in the local area.
Wine pairings have been popular for a while, but beer pairings on the menu have gained much popularity. This is a great way to call out local beers. Consult with your F&B department- they should have good suggestions, or at least be able to refer you to a local brewery who can give you ideas.
Many times attendees are looking for an off-site experience but don’t want to attend by themselves. Provide them a way to network and visit local businesses off-site. It’s a fun way to get to know the host city!
Feel free to reach out and let me know what other ways YOU are enjoying the beer scene in different towns or at events! Cheers!
